because {love thursday}

a photo that appeared in jonny's flickr photostream last evening.
he took it in our front yard when we had a brief break in the rain.
i gave him that frog about seven years ago.
sigh. there goes my heart.

because you seem to never mind when i sing my heart out in the car
because you embrace who i am (even when i haven't showered)
because you make sure i eat every night
because you annoy me until i remember to stop taking things so seriously
because you spent your spring break in the midst of a movie that might rival elizabethtown
because you say things like whatever you need to do when i ask you if i should get a nose ring, or a tatoo, or how the list goes on
because you send me emails in the middle of the day so i feel less alone
because you believe i can
because you remembered

these are (some of) the reasons
i adore you.

*****

not much documenting these last few days...mostly just being and doing lots of this instead:

board games for two
watching movies
resting
bickering
napping
taking care of each other
using the new panini maker
wearing christmas eve pajamas all day
sitting by the fire
crocheting
watching the snow fall
reading
laughing
sitting in the quiet
listening to christmas music for hours (and still not getting to the end of the christmas music playlist on my ipod)
napping
dreaming
brainstorming a wondrous new idea together
watching another movie
bickering again
laughing with each other
being thankful
missing family
being happy for the quiet (after venturing out the day after christmas and finding ourselves surrounded by some not so quiet children)
taking our time opening presents and just being in the moment
remembering
sleeping in
going out to dinner
watching the snow all melt away
staying up way too late
toasting "to us"

hope things are beautiful and full of life in your corner of the world...

today.

tonight, as i am curled up on the couch next to jonny and all snuggled in my plaid flannel pajamas, i think back on today and know that i am so very thankful for...

wonderful friends (who let us be part of the family today...thank you)

laughter that invites you to just let go (i laughed until i cried while we were playing charades...i am in fact still laughing about that moment right now just thinking about it)

my little family (jonny and millie and me all together nestled in our home safe and sound)

for being able to come here and just be me (and having you reach out and connect and remind me that i am not alone...thank you for that dear ones...thank you)

i hope your day was full of the really good moments that make up a life well lived...

blessings,
liz

today. six.

six, 11.16.08

tonight, i remember a moment from this scene in good will hunting* where robin williams says to matt damon, "do you have a soul mate?...somebody who challenges you?...someone who opens up things for you. touches your soul."

i remember being in the theatre in college when i saw this movie and reflecting for a moment on the idea of a soul mate being someone who challenges you. i remember thinking how different this sounded than what other people had told me i was supposed to want. and i remember hoping...
one day...

on this day, i feel very blessed to have been married to someone who challenges me...who opens things...who pushes me and touches my soul...to have been married to him for six years.

very blessed.

*note that this scene, like this whole movie, has a whole heck of a lot of swear words you might not want your children to hear...but it is such a very good scene.

backyard moments.

wisdom

yesterday was another "one of those days." one of those "this is what happens when people get older and you live far away from your family and you don't have control of anything and you just have to wait for information and pray and try not to panic and wait some more and make the best decisions you can" kind of days.

do you hear what i hear

after some phone calls and some tears, jonny and millie got me out of the house.

one pose in 100 photos

just out into the backyard to sit in the glider and listen to the birds and breathe.

i can be very sweet

i captured some of the many faces of our miss millie as we sat together as our little family...

stop it already

(thank you for your kind comments...they mean so very much to me. as i sit here in the morning quiet punctuated by the insistent but happy chirping bird outside the window, i know that i am so blessed.)
